Insurance Protection: An Essential Pillar of Financial Resilience (October 2026)

This Intelligence Report builds on our January 2025 report, ‘Insurance Protection as a Pathway to Improved Financial Resilience and Financial Well-Being’, with new data and analytics and additional longitudinal analysis. This independent report is made possible thanks to the generous partnership of Co-operators.

Once again, the Financial Resilience Institute has demonstrated a clear correlation between people reporting having sufficient insurance protection and stronger household financial resilience outcomes across every household income demographic. Additionally, we have investigated the linkage between insurance protection and improved financial well-being outcomes.

Relevant for insurance companies, financial institutions and financial health leaders in Canada and globally, this Report draws on the Institute’s trended Financial Health and Resilience Index analytics to highlight the importance of insurance protection for household financial resilience. Protection remains an often-overlooked pillar of financial health, resilience and well-being, yet is increasingly important in the context of risks facing households. While the data and evidence are from Canada, the findings may also be relevant to other countries.

Report findings are based on Index analytics of the Institute’s peer-reviewed Financial Health and Resilience Index Model and national longitudinal Financial Well-Being Studies (2017 to 2026).
