Financial Resilience Institute Announces National Initiative to Strengthen Canada’s Non-Profit Sector

VANCOUVER, B.C – August 18, 2026 - Financial Resilience Institute is proud to announce our Non-Profit Financial Resilience Initiative, created to help spark evidence-based collective action and transform how non-profit financial resilience is understood, measured and strengthened across Canada. This aligns with our Purpose of building financial resilience and well-being together, with resilient non-profits and charities the cornerstone of our communities.

We believe in the power of evidence to build resilience, improve lives and strengthen communities. Our vision for the initiative is to collectively help build a stronger, more financially resilient non-profit sector with the capacity to deliver sustained impact for Canadians and their communities.

The Initiative and planned Program will take a focused, collaborative approach to understanding, measuring and helping to maintain or improve the financial resilience of Canada’s non-profit and charitable sectors. Together with leading foundations and select partners, the Institute will leverage our unique and proven methodologies for creating leading Indices and evidence-based solutions to help spark financial and overall resilience for good.

We will develop a first-of-its-kind Non-Profit Financial Resilience Index, independent annual reporting, a free individual financial resilience score tool and a bank of resources. Together with other sector resources, these will help organizations make evidence-based decisions, learn from best practices and take action to strengthen their financial and overall resilience—and their ability to deliver sustained impact for the communities they serve.

The Initiative will complement excellent initiatives and collaborative approaches already underway in our sector, supporting stronger decision-making, governance, capacity building and positive change - ultimately contributing to more resilient organizations, stronger communities and a stronger non-profit sector.
